About Us
The IndLinux project is a volunteer-driven initiative dedicated to localizing Linux and Open Source software into Indian languages. Our primary goal is to bridge the digital divide by making computer operating systems accessible to non-English speaking populations across India in their primary native languages.
Key Initiatives
To enable widespread computing accessibility, the project focuses heavily on the following foundational areas:
- Translation & Localization: Translating core desktop environments like GNOME and KDE into Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, and more.
- Input Mechanisms: Developing efficient keyboard layouts and input method editors (IMEs) for Indian scripts.
- Fonts & Rendering: Supporting Unicode compliance and creating legible, high-quality open-source fonts.
