IndLinux roadmap for March-June 2006

Cybermohalla Hindi workshop

Organize workshop with Cybermohalla to learn their experiences with using Hindi Linux tools and creating content in Hindi. A study on what platform is being used, which tools are being used, which apps are being used in which language. Timeline: March'06

Hindi awareness workshop

This workshop will target Hindi academia ie teachers and faculty of Hindi depts of colleges, universities. Initial target could be Delhi University. Workshop will aim to identify user issues when using Hindi on computers & internet, give a hands on on tools & methods available. Participants could be given a CD with some tools & documentation.

Date: 10th March, 2-3:30pm Venue: Delhi University.

Hindi Review workshop

  • Consolidation of all Hindi localization
  • Review of OpenOffice translations.

Timeline: April-May'06

User Docs

  • Identification , aggregation & creation of docs useful for Indic users.
  • For docs unavailable, an outline to be written on what docs need to be written.
  • App related docs, generic docs in Indic langs on using a desktop.
  • Task videos - created by screencapture, for some specific tasks to teach users.

Hindi ebook/magazine

A magazine on IT & technology in Hindi.

Rajesh Ranjan, Ravikant, Ravi shrivastava & Vivek Rai to give inputs on it.

Hindi Linux book

Some basic user documentation, which would go as part of IndLinux CDs and also as a print copy base on the User docs created.

  • Flier - about IndLinux & activities etc
  • A FAQ flier, about Indlinux, about localization
  • Banners
    • Logo one in 2 sizes - 5'x'3' , 3'x2'
    • More designs for use with demos/workshops.
  • Posters - A3, A4 size - about IndLinux, about some event being organized.
  • Usage booklet - some basic steps on using IndLinux CDs or Indic in general.

Ubuntu like Live CD/ Install CD

A New Indic enabled live + install CD based on ubuntu/debian

Indic Testing initiative

  • A comprehensive plan for testing Indic at all levels
  • See IndicTesting
  • Test cases to be written & test data prepared
  • Automated & manual testing.
  • Form a team for this, from wider base of linux users & developers.

Tools Integration

  • Collect all font, code conversion tools to give a generic interface for easy use.
  • Dictionaries
    • collect dictionaries under open license and in convertible form
    • reorganized in form for searching/storing in Dict & DB formats.
  • Spellchecking
    • Lookout for existing Indic spellchecker solutions available for open testing or open license.
    • Compile & clean existing wordlists.
    • Workout Hindi rules in Hunspell.
