I (Nagarjuna) want to comment on the name chosen for the society. The localization work that IndLinux did so far is not really specific to the either the kernel Linux, or only the GNU/Linux operating system. All the fonts developed work in most operating systems, and the transaltions did for the applications are also useful for all the operating systems. Since most of the applications work in more than one operating system, what is the point of having the name 'IndLinux'? Even the description of the objectives clearly says that "Promoting Indian language computing using Free & OpenSource software (FOSS)." as the main objective.

It is true, that when Prakash, venky and Karunakar began the work it was specific to GNU/Linux. I was saying this whenever I had the opportunity. Now i am taking this opportunity to reiterate it again. I would suggest a more inclusive name like, "Society for FOSS localization", which may support several developmental projects, one of them being 'IndLinux'. The effort that goes into the formation of societies and companies is so much, that we dont want to create more and more organizations.

Karunakar - my point is since earlier Indic computing consortium discussions failed to take shape, the idea of IndLinux society is to start small and then grow.. if in future, the scope becomes large &there is enough financial backing & the society has performed well to its ojbectives, then maybe a bigger and wider organization would do well..if the structure of society limits the scope of it.
